Information of fines and offences..
As an expatriate in Vietnam you will no doubt either have rented a bike or made the decision to buy one. Although driving in Vietnam can be an incredible experience, it is not without its dangers.
Anyone riding a motorbike or scooter with an engine size above 50cc must be in possession of a valid Vietnamese or International license. Without one you are riding illegally and face rising fines if stopped by the local police. The most important thing to remember is that if you do not have a valid license and are unfortunate enough to have an accident, no insurance company will pay for any claims. It is also likely that you will be held responsible for the accident even if it was not your fault.
Riding in Vietnam can be a hugely enjoyable experience but please do so safely and legally as an accident without valid insurance can be hugely expensive.
There are many agents who can help you to convert your license or arrange the driving test or you can do it yourself (better with the help of a Vietnamese friend or colleague).
